Driveway Kerbs & Edgings

Driveway kerbs & edgings adds a finishing touch to your driveway

Driveway edging can create an attractive border for your home’s driveway, serving to protect it as well as adding additional kerb appeal. You can use driveway edging for many types of common driveway surfaces such as block paving, tarmac, concrete, brick and even stone, and there are many ways to design and implement it.

Kerbs are a more modern product, although some do date back for 100 years or more. They have become more widely used with the growth in popularity of clay brick paving, which they are made to complement. Many of the modern clay kerbs are made to match or replicate BS kerb profiles, such as half-battered or bull-nosed, although there are a few original or unique designs still manufactured.
Driveway edgings can be either flat or raised, although those that are higher than the driveway stand out more

Raised Driveway Edging
Raised driveway edging is designed to extend above the height of your driveway and usually creates a better border for protecting both your driveway and lawn.

The most common raised edging is Belgian block. Belgian block is actual blocks of granite. This edging is set in concrete and can be expensive. Belgian block is available in a standard size or jumbos.

Flat Driveway Edging
Flat types of edging will sit level with your driveway and rely a lot on colour and shape to create a contrast.

Driveway Kerbs & Edging Considerations
The main purpose of driveway edging is to create a border and to help protect your driveway from damage such as chipping or cracking. You can use low-cost methods such as common red bricks or hollow blocks to edge or use more expensive landscaping bricks to create something more unique and personal. Regardless of the type of driveway edging you install, you should choose material that matches the appearance and the decor of your home’s exterior and landscape.
When designing, and implementing driveway edging, you should also design it in a way that will allow for easy maintenance in cutting grass that may grow up next to or around the edging material. Also, digging a shallow trench for your driveway edging will almost always result in a more professional appearance and less weeding and maintenance

Whichever material you choose, driveway edging will make it better. It can spruce up an otherwise dirty, bland gravel driveway. For stone driveways, it can help keep the pavers in place and reduce the incidence of cracks and costly repairs. It can be made from the same material as your driveway or contrasting colours and textures that add a more decorative element.

What Our Customers Say

Abel Landscapes were absolutely brilliant from start to finish. We were given advice by Darren Moss on the best layout for our garden, which included plans for areas we had not even considered. The workforce were so professional and never stopped working for a minute. They cleared up after themselves and left everywhere spick and span. I would thoroughly recommend them.
